Our 3rd Class students had a wonderful day visiting the NCAD Final Year Exhibition. We were lucky to be shown around by an NCAD student Eabha who had previously completed a placement with our class.
The students loved seeing the incredible artwork, designs, and creative projects on display. It was an inspiring visit and a great opportunity to learn more about art and design in college.

Fun morning for Junior infants - 2nd Class
On Friday, our class had a fantastic trip to Collins Barracks for a fun art workshop inspired by the William Morris tapestry Flora. We looked closely at the beautiful flowers, patterns, and colours in the tapestry and talked about all the tiny details we could spot.
Next, we created our own flower drawings and used coloured paper to make bright and creative floral collages. Everyone used their imagination to design unique pieces of art.
At the end of the workshop, we looked at everyone’s creations and shared what we liked about each other’s work. It was wonderful to see so many different ideas and colourful designs. We had a great day learning, creating, and exploring art together with Miriam & Joyce from Collins Barracks!
3rd Class had a fantastic trip into the city this week to visit St Stephen’s Green as part of the celebrations for Bike Week.
The highlight of the visit was seeing Anaya’s wonderful winning drawing proudly displayed on the railings around the park alongside other artwork celebrating cycling, road safety, and active travel. The children were so excited to spot Anaya’s picture and were delighted to see her creativity recognised in such a public and special way.
The class enjoyed walking through the park, taking in all the colourful displays, and discussing the importance of cycling and looking after the environment. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate Anaya’s achievement together and enjoy a great day outdoors- even if there were some rain showers!
Well done again to Anaya on her fantastic success- we are all very proud! 🚲🎨
Last week in Art, we explored the colour wheel and learned about warm and cool tones. The children created beautiful sun and moon artworks to demonstrate the difference between warm colours, which create feelings of energy and warmth, and cool colours, which give a calm and peaceful effect. The finished pieces were full of creativity and colour.
As part of our whole-class project on the UN Global Goals, we focused on the goal of “No Poverty.” The children worked together to learn about the importance of helping others, fairness, and supporting communities around the world. We were proud to present our project during assembly and share our ideas and learning with the school community.
We were delighted to welcome first year students Eabha & Ariana from National College of Art and Design into 3rd Class for a wonderful art collaboration inspired by the work of Pablo Picasso.
The students worked together to explore Picasso’s unique style while creating imaginative self-portraits, colourful paintings, and creative collograph prints. The classroom was filled with creativity, teamwork, and fun as everyone experimented with shape, colour, and expression through art.
It was a fantastic experience for our class to learn new techniques and gain inspiration from the visiting NCAD students. We are very grateful for their enthusiasm, encouragement, and artistic talent throughout the project.
This week, our classroom transformed into a prehistoric landscape as students worked together to create a collaborative dinosaur world out of clay!
As part of our Creativity in the Classroom initiative, students explored teamwork, imagination, and hands-on artistic skills. They designed their own dinosaurs, sculpted miniature habitats, and combined their creations into one large, colourful display.
As part of Science Week, 3rd Class explored a big question: Where does wind come from?
We learned that wind is moving air. The Sun heats the Earth unevenly, which means some places become warmer than others.
- Warm air rises
- Cool air moves in to take its place
This movement of air is what we feel as wind!
To see wind in action, we made our own paper windmills- showing how air moves.
Everyone had great fun creating, testing, and learning. Our windmills were colourful, creative, and a perfect way to feel science happening!
This week in Creativity in the Classroom with Deirdre, students explored the world of 3D art and imagination! Using clay, we learned how to shape and combine basic 3-dimensional forms-like spheres, cylinders, and cubes to bring our ideas to life.
By the end of the session, our classroom was full of colourful, clay animals of all kinds, each one unique and full of personality. From elephants and giraffes to imaginary creatures and dinosaurs , everyone showed amazing creativity and teamwork.
It was a fantastic start to our creativity journey, and we can’t wait to see what we’ll make next!
This week in our classroom, we’ve been working on procedural writing- learning how to write clear, step-by-step instructions. To make it extra fun (and just in time for Halloween!), we created gooey slime!
Students brainstormed the materials, wrote detailed steps, and then tested their own “procedures” in real life. We learned how important it is to use bossy verbs at the start of each of the steps to give precise instructions so that anyone could follow along.
The classroom was full of excitement (and a few giggles) as our writers turned into scientists!
