As part of our Green schools initiative, we held a Global Citizenship day in April. Each class was assigned a Sustainable Development Goal. 4th class investigated the goal ‘Life on Land’. We wrote explanation texts about how species are becoming endangered and made posters describing how we can protect the environment. We presented our work at our Global Goals day assembly.

Well done to the 4th and 5th Class students who joined our school volleyball team this year. They’ve worked very hard at training each week to learn the foundation skills and are already looking forward to entering competitions against other schools next year.

Well done to the 5th and 6th class students who represented the school so well at the local football league in May. We played some really tough games and pulled off some impressive results with wins for both the boys and the girls teams. We rounded up the league with a great day last week when all the schools came together at the finals day to play on Richmond park pitch. Well done everyone!

In March, 4th class participated in Science Blast. We worked very hard in the weeks leading up to the big event. Our question was ‘Can we slow down gravity?’. We investigated this by creating marble runs with different surfaces to either increase or decrease friction. We raced the marbles and found that we could slow down gravity. The bubble wrap surface added the most friction and slowed down gravity the most. We had a great day out looking at the other projects, visiting the stands and watching the exciting shows!

We have been doing outdoor adventure and orienteering for PE in May. We have also done some fun team challenges. We have been learning to use and follow a map to complete an orienteering course.

We have been learning about oral hygiene for Science in May. We had a dentist visit us and teach us all about keeping our teeth clean and healthy. We also did an interesting experiment. Egg shells have calcium in them just like our teeth so we soaked boiled eggs in different drinks and observed the effects on the eggs. We used water, milk, orange cordial, lucozade, Coca Cola and Coke Zero. The Coke Zero had the most visible impact on the shell and both the milk and water had no visible impact on the shell. We had predicted that the Coca Cola or the lucozade would be the worst.

We took inspiration from Ms Turner's printing art lesson by creating these abstract self-portraits using different materials. We then painted onto our creations and printed them onto paper. Have a look at our creations!

Earlier in the term we did a block of boxing with coach Noel. We really enjoyed building our fitness and developing new skills. We are really looking forward to our tour of the Aviva stadium this week, organised by Noel.
