The end to a really busy school year has arrived. It has been a fantastic school year. The children are learning and thriving. They have worked hard and played hard so now its time to switch off and rest.
We are sad to say goodbye to our 6th class. We wish them the very best of luck on their journey to secondary school. We look forward to welcoming out new junior infants and any other children that will join other classes.

We will see you all on Thursday the 27th of August.

We are delighted to share that our school has been selected as a DEIS Plus school.

You may be wondering what this means for your child and your family.

DEIS stands for Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools. It is a Department of Education programme that provides additional supports to schools so that every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

DEIS Plus is a new initiative for schools with the highest levels of need. It provides even greater support and investment so that schools can respond to the needs of their pupils and families in the best possible way.

What will this mean for our children?

Over time, DEIS Plus will bring additional resources to help us provide:

  • More teaching and learning support.
  • Enhanced wellbeing supports.
  • Extra opportunities to develop literacy, numeracy and other key skills.
  • Stronger links between home, school and the wider community.
  • Additional programmes and activities to support every child's learning and wellbeing.

What does this mean for parents?

Our partnership with parents is more important than ever. We will continue to:

  • Work closely with families.
  • Listen to parents' views and ideas.
  • Offer opportunities for parents to become involved in school life.
  • Provide supports that help children succeed both at school and at home.

Does DEIS Plus change who we are?

No. Our school remains the same welcoming, caring and ambitious place it has always been.

DEIS Plus is not a label for children or families. It is recognition by the Department of Education that additional investment in our school will help ensure every child has the best possible chance to learn, grow and succeed.

This is a very positive development for our whole school community.

Ms. Aoife Lafferty will be our new DEIS Plus Wellbeing Co Ordinator. This is a full time role and part of her role will be the creation of an Art room. This will also be used as a Nurture Room.

Our 3rd Class students had a wonderful day visiting the NCAD Final Year Exhibition. We were lucky to be shown around by an NCAD student Eabha who had previously completed a placement with our class.

The students loved seeing the incredible artwork, designs, and creative projects on display. It was an inspiring visit and a great opportunity to learn more about art and design in college.

A big thank you to our NCAD guides Eabha & Sarah for making the day so enjoyable!

As part of our Green schools initiative, we held a Global Citizenship day in April. Each class was assigned a Sustainable Development Goal. 4th class investigated the goal ‘Life on Land’. We wrote explanation texts about how species are becoming endangered and made posters describing how we can protect the environment. We presented our work at our Global Goals day assembly.

Well done to the 5th and 6th class students who represented the school so well at the local football league in May. We played some really tough games and pulled off some impressive results with wins for both the boys and the girls teams. We rounded up the league with a great day last week when all the schools came together at the finals day to play on Richmond park pitch. Well done everyone!
