Our class has been learning about the incredible artist Alma Thomas. She loved using bright colours and repeating shapes to make her paintings look like mosaics. We looked at her artworks “Pansies in Washington” and “The Eclipse”.

Inspired by her style, we created our own mosaic-style pictures. We used lots of colours and different patterns to make our art stand out-just like Alma Thomas did.

The results are so effective and full of energy! Each piece shows off creativity, imagination, and the joy of making art. 🎨✨

Last Friday we visited Kilmainham Gaol. We have been learning about Kilmainham Gaol this past month. In Kilmainham Gaol, we saw where the 1916 leaders were executed. It made us feel uneasy as if we were standing on their blood and their presence was all around us. We saw the old wing and the new wing of the Gaol. Our tour guide got us to walk in a circle outside in the courtyard to mimic the exercises prisoners used to do. We were allowed to walk around the museum at the end of the tour and we saw Grace Gifford's ring as well as other artefacts from the Gaol.

This month, Senior Infants have been working really hard and having lots of fun in Maths! We have been focusing on sorting different objects and creating patterns. Each lesson is playful and engaging, giving the children plenty of opportunities to explore and learn in hands-on ways. Maths time is always a highlight of the day, and the children really enjoy discovering new ways to sort and make patterns. Keep up the fantastic work, Senior Infants!

5th class were in charge of leading assembly this week.
They did a wonderful drama of a story connected with Richmond Barracks in 1816. Hot air balloons were newly invented and the English sent them over to Dublin to cheer the soldiers up after years of war.

We have been learning all about the famous local historical site Kilmainham Gaol in September. We learned about prison life, reasons prisoners were sent to Kilmainham and all about the famous political prisoners that were imprisoned there for their part in the 1916 Easter Rising. We were lucky to go on a trip to Kilmainham Gaol. Have a look at our photographs and read some of our recounts of our trip.

Kilmainham Gaol by Kali

We went to Kilmainham Gaol. My favourite part was going to see Grace Gifford's jail cell. Something new that I learned was that when Joseph Plunkett and Grace Gifford got married Grace bought the ring instead of Joseph because he was a prisoner. I felt chilly in my legs when we were on the yard where the political prisoners were executed. Our tour guide Tom was the best!

We went to Kilmainham Gaol. My favourite part of the tour was learning about Joseph Plunkett and Grace Gifford. I had shivers down my spine at the stonebreakers yard.
