News - 4th class: Mr. Moriarty

27th Nov 2025
4th Class have been learning to play Gaelic football for PE during September and October. We have focused on skills such as hand passing, kick passing and soloing the ball. Last week we went to Good Counsel GAA club and played an in-house fun blitz to help us prepare for future matches against other schools. We had great fun with lots of skills on show. Well done to the blue team who won our tournament.

This month we have been learning about The Great Irish Famine. We have learned lots of different facts about it and we have been working hard on projects about The Famine. Each pair was tasked with researching different aspects of The Famine. The projects are almost finished and we will be presenting them to each other next week.

4th class got the chance to try out our new playroom for the senior children in the school. We had a wonderful afternoon getting creative with the kinetic sand and playdough and building our team work skills playing card games and giant connect 4.

Last Friday, 4th Class took on the big job of hosting and presenting the Senior Assembly and they did a fantastic job! The pupils showed off their public speaking skills as they stood up in front of a large crowd of students and teachers. They spoke clearly, confidently, and kept everyone engaged from start to finish.

Well done to all of 4th Class for their hard work and teamwork in preparing for the assembly. You should all be very proud of yourselves!

This week, 4th Class have been learning all about gravity and the centre of gravity. We had great fun putting our learning into action by making our own simple seesaws to test how gravity works and how balance affects movement. The class did a fantastic job experimenting and predicting what would happen. We have some very impressive scientists in the making!

Last Friday we visited Kilmainham Gaol. We have been learning about Kilmainham Gaol this past month. In Kilmainham Gaol, we saw where the 1916 leaders were executed. It made us feel uneasy as if we were standing on their blood and their presence was all around us. We saw the old wing and the new wing of the Gaol. Our tour guide got us to walk in a circle outside in the courtyard to mimic the exercises prisoners used to do. We were allowed to walk around the museum at the end of the tour and we saw Grace Gifford's ring as well as other artefacts from the Gaol.
