This week in Creativity in the Classroom with Deirdre, students explored the world of 3D art and imagination! Using clay, we learned how to shape and combine basic 3-dimensional forms-like spheres, cylinders, and cubes to bring our ideas to life.
By the end of the session, our classroom was full of colourful, clay animals of all kinds, each one unique and full of personality. From elephants and giraffes to imaginary creatures and dinosaurs , everyone showed amazing creativity and teamwork.
It was a fantastic start to our creativity journey, and we can’t wait to see what we’ll make next!
We had great fun celebrating Halloween in 4th class. We used our imaginations writing Halloween themed procedural writing and looked at the history of Halloween. For music, we chose an Halloween theme and used percussion instruments to recreate that scene, such as a haunted house. Our Halloween walk was a great success. We enjoyed showing off our costumes on our walk around Inchicore.
Maths Week
We have been busy learning about lots of new things from taking part in Maths week where we used mirrors to explore if Halloween shape are symmetrical or non-symmetrical. We also got to share our learning during assembly.
Procedural Writing
We have also been using learning how to write instructions so we could explain how to make Rice Krispie Buns. We had lots of fun making and eating them.
Pyjama Party
We also earned our class treat during September which was a pyjama party. We got to wear our pyjamas to school and watch a film with some popcorn and our Rice Krispie Buns that we made earlier in the week.
Beep Beep walk
We learned all about crossing the road and the Safe Cross Code. We then took part in the Beep Beep Walk with Junior Infants, Senior Infants and Second Class. We practiced crossing the road together, we also meet some local Gardai and then even let us have a look inside their Garda car.
Playroom
This year we are so lucky to be able to use our new playroom, we have great fun trying out all of the fun toys and learning to play safely.
Halloween Art
We have been creating some lovely art pieces over the past days. We created some lovely pumpkins to display in our classroom using some crepe paper and paper plates. We also were doing some printing to make some more pumpkins. We used apple halves to make the pumpkin shape and drew on some pumpkin faces.
This week in our classroom, we’ve been working on procedural writing- learning how to write clear, step-by-step instructions. To make it extra fun (and just in time for Halloween!), we created gooey slime!
Students brainstormed the materials, wrote detailed steps, and then tested their own “procedures” in real life. We learned how important it is to use bossy verbs at the start of each of the steps to give precise instructions so that anyone could follow along.
The classroom was full of excitement (and a few giggles) as our writers turned into scientists!
We had great fun in 2nd class for Maths week. We created our own board games in pairs, brainstorming ideas first and then designing the game. There was lots of excitement in the room when we got to explain our games and play them!
6th class played Maths games with us in the hall and this was a real hit with 2nd class. We really enjoyed learning new games and interacting with 6th class.
We also enjoyed maths4fun this week with board games and interactive games and writing in our Maths journals.
We also got to try out our new game room for golden time. We had funny puppet shows, drawing stations and kinetic sand stations. Everyone had great fun and really enjoyed it!
Our girls’ GAA team had a brilliant day out at the recent blitz, showcasing not only their skills on the pitch but also their outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship.
The team played incredibly well in all their matches, with every player giving it their all and supporting one another throughout the day. It was fantastic to see such determination, enthusiasm, and positivity from start to finish.
Well done to all the girls involved, you did yourselves and the school proud! A big thank you also to the organisers and supporters who helped make the day so enjoyable.
We’re already looking forward to the next one!
