We have had a busy week celebrating Literacy week. We entered the door competition with our 'Bookflix' theme, using books that we have read and would like to read soon.

On Wednesday we had a lovely afternoon playing games in the hall, using our oral language skills along the way.

Both our class and Mr Moriarty's class have been learning about World War II in history so we performed a play about the blackout in Ireland during the war, called 'When Ireland was quiet'. We welcomed a big crowd in on Friday to watch our performance.

Our genre of writing for this month is Poetry. We combined writing with art and ICT by typing and printing our haikus and then painting a background to display them. We chose the theme of floods for inspiration!

We were very lucky to have story teller Seosamh visit our school and tell us the story of Fionn Mac Chumhaill through english agus trí Ghaeilge with engaging animation.

To finish off Literacy week, we took a trip to our local library where we listened to some lovely stories told to us by Liz. The standout story had to be 'The Extraordinary Gardiner'. We then visualised the two worlds in the story through art.

They are so proud of their work adn are so looking forward to sharing it with everyone.
On Monday the 9th we will have Storyteller Seamas O Maonlai visit us. We are really looking forward to this as he comes highly recommended. On Tuesday 10th Junior and Senior Infants will visit a storytelling session in Inchicore Library.

Today Mr. Moriarty's 4th class performed their Christmas play 'The Case of the Missing Christmas Star'. They have been working so hard on it over the past few weeks; learning their lines, making props and costumes, and rehearsing. It was great to perform it in front of the other classes, parents, and family. A few pupils felt nervous but said working with their friends and taking a deep breath and reminding themselves to relax helped them get through it. Each and every one of them should be so proud of themselves!

Christmas in Junior Infants

It has been a very busy and exciting time in Junior infants. We enjoyed welcoming parents into our class for a special Christmas crafts morning last week and we made some lovely festive art. A great morning was had by both children and parents.

Along with doing lots of art this season, the children had great fun creating their Christmas lists and talking about their favourite toys. We also enjoyed the school toy sale on Friday which was a great success in our class and brought lots of excitement. It has been a busy and fun run up to the festive period with lots of smiles and happy memories made in junior infants.

Senior Infants had a wonderful morning welcoming their parents into the classroom for some festive Christmas crafts. The children were excited to showcase their fantastic work, with Christmas music playing and plenty of holiday cheer in the air.

We created colourful Christmas trees using crepe paper, adding snowy details and cheerful snowmen made from cotton wool. The finished display was bright, creative, and full of festive spirit. It was a lovely way to start the Christmas season! 🎄✨

4th Class have been learning all about the Famine over the last few weeks. We have learned about the blight, soup kitchens, workhouses and emigration. Mr Moriarty’s class made projects after doing some extra research. Today we went on a trip to the Jeanie Johnston replica famine ship in the city centre. We learned that 200 passengers made the dangerous voyage across the Atlantic on this ship. Conditions were very tough on board with 10 children sharing a bunk bed each and only 30 minutes up on deck permitted each day. It was fascinating to experience life on the tall ship.
