First Class have watched their butterflies come out of their crysallis this week. It was beautiful to watch.
Yesterday when our first butterfly hatched we missed it by minutes! Today, we were determined to see it happen! Watch the Butterfly hatch below!🦋
This week Senior Infants did a experiment called ‘Fruity sweets colour mixing’.We used skittles, warm water, and a plate. We placed the sweets around the edge of the plate in a circle shape. Then we poured warm water into the middle of the plate until it reached the sweets. The result was that the colours from the sweets met and mixed together like a rainbow. So we learned that the sugar from the sweets dissolved in warm water. We had lots of fun watching the results.
Over the past 10 days we have been very busy doing lots of experiments and carrying out investigations! We held a STEM assembly today where each class told everyone about what they had learned! Everyone really enjoyed learning something new and there was a great sense of curiosity in the hall! Here are some pictures of the different experiments we carried out!
We have had great fun and learned lots including about metamorphis, aerodynamics, and hydroponics, during our STEM week.
Take a look at our very first butterfly which came to say hello! We are all very excited in First Class as our butterfly appeared just after we’d completed a mini beast scavenger hunt around the school!
Today we dressed up in our national colours and it was great to see all the different nationalities that are in our school! We had a drumming workshop which we really enjoyed and we also had our weekly dance class!
2nd Class had a great day out on their school tour to Airfield Estate! We had a great day and we were very lucky with the weather! The children got to meet two calves and they saw the cows being milked. We also saw some other animals as well as that we had a minibeast hunt! We enjoyed time in the playground after a picnic for lunch! Take a look at some of our pictures from today!
Both 4th classes had a lovely day out in GoQuest Carrickmines. We used our team work skills to ‘escape’ the rooms and complete the challenges. The weather was lovely so we had a picnic and then made the journey back to school by Luas.
For art during STEAM week we took inspiration from artist Theo Jansen’s Strandbeest constructions. We watched videos about how he creates this ‘beasts’ on the beach and then used match sticks and blue tack to create our own creatures.
